In the first three quarters of 2026, 22 U.S. biotech companies completed IPOs, raising $6.9B — roughly 5x the full-year 2025 total. The article maps the financing trends behind clinical data, differentiated technology and TIDES (peptides/oligonucleotides).

After years of a financing downturn, U.S. biotech IPOs rebounded noticeably in 2026. PwC's capital-markets report shows 22 biotech companies completed IPOs in the first three quarters, raising $6.9B; for all of 2025 there were only 7 IPOs and $1.4B — this year's first nine months already exceed last year's total count more than 3x and its proceeds nearly 5x.

Clinical evidence and milestones as the key selling point

For companies without commercial products, concrete candidates, clinical data and clear plans are becoming central to attracting investors. Veradermics (February IPO, ~$256M) oral sustained-release minoxidil VDPHL01 showed +30.3 non-vellus hairs/cm² vs +7.3 for placebo in male androgenetic alopecia 2/3 data; Apnimed (July IPO, ~$192M) oral combo AD109 for obstructive sleep apnea completed two Phase 3 studies and filed an NDA with the FDA in 2026; Kailera (April IPO, $625M) GLP-1/GIP dual agonist ribupatide is in global Phase 3; Generate Biomedicines (February IPO, $400M) anti-TSLP antibody GB-0895 is in Phase 3 for severe asthma.

Diversifying modalities: peptides and oligonucleotides gain momentum

Of the 22 companies, four have pipelines tied to oligonucleotides, peptides and conjugated chemistries (TIDES), about 18%. Parabilis (June IPO, $670M) uses its stabilized α-helical peptide Helicon platform to target traditionally undruggable protein–protein interactions; its lead zolucatetide targets β-catenin/TCF and is in Phase 1/2, and Parabilis partnered with Regeneron (~$2.2B potential) on antibody–Helicon conjugates. ADARx (September IPO, $446M) siRNA onvuzosiran (plasma prekallikrein) for hereditary angioedema earned FDA Fast Track in its Phase 3 study; Kardigan brings oligonucleotides to cardiovascular disease with tonlamarsen, a GalNAc-conjugated ASO targeting AGT that lowered plasma AGT and blood pressure in Phase 2.

From novel molecule to clinical development: crossing the R&D gap

Highly modified peptides, complex conjugates and precisely chemically modified oligonucleotides all must be translated from lab innovation into stable, scalable, clinic-ready products. Novel peptides may involve special amino acids, complex cyclization and multiple modifications; oligonucleotides require systematic optimization across sequence, modification, delivery ligand and conjugation, with raw-material supply, impurity control, purification efficiency and scale-up growing critical as programs advance. WuXi TIDES offers an integrated platform spanning discovery, CMC development and manufacturing; in one siRNA-GalNAc program it raised sense-strand crude purity by over 85% and final yield by over 90%, delivering IND-enabling material on time.

Completing an IPO is only a milestone on the path of innovative drug development. What matters more going forward is whether these proceeds can drive pivotal clinical data, and whether the innovative technologies can ultimately become therapies that meet patient needs.
